Will Maine beat out Loveland and A-Basin for opening day? When does Sugarloaf usually open? Are they blowing snow extraordinarily early?

Whatever happened to Yankee Thrift? Making snow in September? ? My best guess is they were testing the system during the recent mini-artic blast. Anybody watch the HBO series "Game of Thrones"? One of the major families lives in a very cold region, and, the family motto is "Winter Is Coming" (but, they get years of winter rather than a few months).

Yes, it was a testing of the pumps, compressors, chillers and blow out some of the piping. They normally fire up the systems in October for the test. Had a mini cold snap (18°): so fire them up. A couple of years ago, one set of the chillers got piped in backwards and that ruined the chiller compressor. This happened when they needed to be making snow and hobbled the snow making ability for the next 1 1/2 months. Better to test early if you can.
Normally Sugarloaf likes to open on the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Sunday River usually tries to open for Halloween on upper terrain. Can't come soon enough!
Still a pretty video!
