Ok, folks, time to start talking about our skiing plans. Where and when are you going? Any possible meet-ups?
First, I'd like to consider something in the Vt. area in mid-December, mid-week, 3 or 4 days. A friend has a place near Stratton, in the PMTS forum there is a thread about a small meet-up at Killington during the PSIA Instructors Week. It would be great to get time on a bigger mountain long before my small hill opens in full.
Then, Aspen in the first week of Feb. for the Epic Gathering. 3 long time friends are sharing a condo in the center of town. Aspen is special as over 40 years ago it was my first western trip. I will always remember riding up the first morning on a blue bird day and being awed by the sight of the Maroon Bells.
Aspen means missing Gary's International Guys Trip, but, I hope to do a few days with him at Bristol sometime.
Another thought is to hit up Stowe. There are certain dates each month where members of a ski club can by a 3 day ticket for about $150 or so. This might be an opportunity for a Peak Skiers meet-up. I'll post the dates later.
March April seem like a long way off, but, maybe a 2nd western trip could be in the plans.
So, share!

LP:
Okay, the plans for Lynn and I.
1. Second week of December - Colorado. This has become an annual date for us since my birthday is Dec. 7th; lodging rates are cheaper than after Christmas. One year we had tremendous snow, last two not, but at that time of year we are content to acclimate to altitude and try to remember what to do with our feet on slippery white stuff.
2. Second week of January - Colorado. We are taking the Harb Ski Systems "Short Turns Camp". Someone mentioned last year that, "you should learn to make something other than GS turns with those nice Fischer slalom side cut skis." In fact, it may have been my coach.
2.5 Somewhere in here we will probably find time to take a long weekend to Sugarbush in Vermont. This has also become a favorite annual trip.
3. Maybe. Feb-March trip to Utah. I really like Alta, but it's hard to justify going to Utah when the Vail Epic pass is so darned cheap. Now that Canyons and Park City are included, a return to Utah is feasible. This one will depend on snow conditions this winter.
4. April maybe. Lynn is seriously thinking that this may be an "exchange rate" favorable time to go to Hintertux for a week of group skiing. Need to check insurance and flight costs. Decision has to be made early, before we really know what the snow is going to be like.
Not listed is the normal 4-10 days at Elk Mountain in PA. where the number of days depends on Lynn's hospital schedule and presence of non-icy snow.
Skis we use: Jim: Fishcer RC4 Superior SC @165. 120-67-100 14m radius Head Rev 85 @170. 131-85-113 14.7m radius SkiLogik Ullr's Chariot @178. 145-101-131 15m radius
Lynn: Head MYA 7@156. 118-66-97 12.5m radius Head MYA 8@156. 130-84-112 13m radius

I'm getting snow fever.
Weather is finally getting colder. Sugarloaf had "Homecoming" last weekend with annual meeting for the mountain and our neighborhood association. Flurries were in the air. Did major fall cleaning. A few projects to get done before the mountain opens. Should be about a month, mid November.
Someday Bigger is threatening opening a trail on Monday. That has pushed K'mart to promise a trail for Sunday afternoon. It's coming! Might make a trip over to Sunday River in a week or two if they do get open on Monday.
Plans for ski season '15/'16:
Walk off the mountain at end of each ski day. (More important as I get older and more decrepit)
Ski a bunch at Sugarloaf. Got 65 days in at the 'loaf last year.
Colorado trip last week in January for SuperBlue Camp. Going with daughter Kristin. Planning to share condo with Dan B. who is also going to camp.
Colorado trip mid March for a conference at Vail. This will be my first time at Vail (have led a deprived skiing adulthood). Planning to meet up with my sister who lives in San Francisco. This will be the first time we have skied together in ~ 45 yrs. May also get a day in at Copper with a fraternity brother from college years. (
Goal is to ski my age (65) in days and over a million feet vertical.

A quick follow up to the Stowe Ski deals. If you are a member of a eastern ski club, then, you can get a 3 day Stowe pass for $99. The dates for the offering are: December 4-6, 2015; January 6-8, 2016 February 5-7, 2016; March 18-20, 2016 & April 8-10, 2016 - See more at: www.stowe.com/groups/council/#sthash.Ewh6bLU1.dpuf It's a great deal, I'm thinking that March or April just may work.

Jim and Jim, Great to hear that the forum skiers are returning to a Harald camp. Is there a different focus between a "super blue" and "short turn" camp? There is only one PMTS style turn, centered around a short(er) type style.
And to Jim R and Lynn, from the PMTS forum, it appears that Hintertux is in your travel plans. I am jealous. Is Todd in your camp? It's the ultimate Peak Skiers meet-up.

Lynn says there is a very slight difference in focus. Super Blue used to be called All-Mountain and includes use of PMTS skills off-piste, assuming you have a solid short turn. In reality, the difference may be limited to the 2-3 upper groups, since they get a lot of different skill sets and backgrounds in each camp. My group last year were all decent skiers and were probably the second most skillful group, but noone else had any knowledge of PMTS fundamentals or terminology.
Todd is in the first Hintertux session, we are in the second. However, he is staying the weekend in between, so we will get to see his Austrian skiing style.
Mostly unrelated, but I am still amazed that we take a private lesson with Bob H. or a camp with 2 different instructors, and they separately each arrive at the same conclusion of where we are in the progression and what we should focus on. An amazing instructional consistency.

I was planning to show off my Austrian après ski style. Note to me: wake up before last chair one weekend day; show off left and right turns. In return for doing this, perhaps Lynn will be ladylike and refrain from giggling at my attempt to ski Austrian style. It feels odd to have ski boots with me in a snowless Summit County tonight, but Harb alignment tech training starts tomorrow 8:00 sharp at the skunkworks. Lucky for me I already skied last week at Killinton's opening.
