The first day of March is always a little bit of a bummer, the weeks of my ski season are nearing the end. All the pre-season anticipation, then the thrill of getting started, the feel of improvement after getting days on snow, the great feel of the sun starting to light up the mountain, all begin to dim with the realization that ski season is precious and soon gone. In se Pa., Mid March is closing time, damn a 13 week season. This year, two additional factors are in play. When I returned from Utah 3 weeks ago, I brought back a cough from hell, that still persists, despite my Dr.s best efforts, and, I've skied 1 day. Also, my wife is scheduled for a surgical procedure on the 18th which will require me to assume a supportive role for a couple of weeks, so no late season western trip. I will truly miss ending the season at someplace like Big Sky or Summit Co. enjoying some great spring snow.
So, all, let's just get all the days in we can and enjoy while it's here. On the upside, I did get the best western skiing experience I've ever had in terms of length and snow quality in Utah this season with the Epic group. I may not get as many days in as typical over the past few years, but, I'm still smiling at all this great sport does for us.

So your glass is half full, even as the season winds down!! Any season that includes such an Epic (pun intended) trip is a good one.
Sent from Bozeman, MT - where the high today is forecast at -34C. But with 7-8 inches of new snow, the temps will be better for our first day tomorrow.
Hope all goes smoothly with your wife's surgery.

Awesome, 7-8 of cold inter-rocky smoke? Love it! Clld weather helps keep the Bogner bunnies of the slopes and out of the way.
I've never heard a bad word (o less than superlative word) about Big Sky so you're sitting pretty! Ski good or eat wood.
I skied today and a little yesterday morning. Dusted off the Occam's Razors and got my carve on. It was fun, just not where My head is at come March 1st. I sought ought a few frozen mogul runs and tree runs (surfaces are ballistically firm and irregular, but coverage is stellar) and challenged my athletic side.
I have come back around this season to enjoying a narrow carving ski and they certainly made today much better. Also, I have to admit, I saw a number of youngster on big boards looking pretty ragged (though a couple of the truly talented can arc 'em on the hard snow…but even they'd arc a narrow ski a lot better!).
