Hey LP -- I actually haven't tried it yet. I just got the Kinetic recently, and have ordered a Tacx trainer tire for my 29er and for my wife's 26er. They should be in hand shortly, so I will let you know how it works out. I toyed with the idea of putting an old micro-knob mtn. bike tire on there, but the owner's manual specifically says not to do that for a 29er bike, and only to use a slick tire.
As for adjusting resistance, as far as I can tell it is automatic and changes with wheel speed. Perhaps there is a way to adjust, but the literature that I have doesn't mention it. I have the Road Machine unit, which is a fluid-based system. Kinetic does have a Magnetic model with variable resistance, adjusted with a remote controller. Looks like that would work for you.

Svend Does the Kinetic have a means of increasing/decreasing the resistance so that a workout can be done at various levels of exertion? It's sort of backwards to actual riding where you shift to a lower gear up a hill, but I assume that shifting to a faster/higher gear would simulate a greater load. Even though resistance at the tire is fixed, making the tire go faster is an increased resistance.

Gosh Jim. You mean I can shift gears when riding this thing? Remarkable! That should do the trick nicely. I might actually have figured that one out on my own, given time.

Wellll, I can't say for sure that YOU will be able to shift gears, but down here in the lower 48 it can be done. Up in the frozen north, you may have to get off the bicycle so you can lift the back of the chain from one of those gear-like things onto a bigger one.

Yes, well, we may be slow to adopt fancy new-fangled technologies like derailleurs and such, but we sure play a darn good game of hockey.

Total silence on this end. Both men and women. Awesome indeed.
