With the recent bonding between midwif and her Head MYA 8's for an all-mountain ski, she is considering "downsizing" her Fischer Progressor 8's (72mm waist) with something that has a waist width of less than 70mm. At the top of her list (or maybe the only candidate at this time) is the Head MYA 7. The main attraction of the Progressor 8 is the fact that they can be easily bent at lower speeds, and yet they continue to hold at any reasonable speed, so she isn't interested in too stiff a ski.
Any thoughts or suggestions on skis she should demo, or sources of MYA 7's at good prices. The skunk works has a 156 in stock for demo, so we will do that in March.

Hi Jim, I know nothing about the Mya 7, and have never seen one here in Canada. I will keep my eyes open for a good deal on one next time I'm in the shops. As for other choices, I may not be much help either, as I haven't looked at women's or unisex skis in the <70mm waist range for some time. I know that Fischer has the women's Zephyr C-Line ( www.fischersports.com/en/Alpine/C-LINE/Products/3489-Zephyr-C-LINE ), but that has a Flowflex plate and double Ti layer (ie. heavy and stiff). Should be an awesome ski, but probably too similar to the Head Power One (aka Supershape Speed) that she tried a few years ago and caused so much pain. Otherwise, Fischer has these two in their regular women's line: www.fischersports.com/en/Alpine/Products/Skis/Women-Sport/3438-Ivory-My-Stylewww.fischersports.com/en/Alpine/Products/Skis/Women-Sport/2415-Trinity-My-StyleOne has metal; the other not; on-piste rocker for both. Other than that, you might check out this one from Dynastar: www.dynastar.com/CG/CA/elite-pro-fluid_DACB801_product_dynastar-skis-women-ontrail.htmlNo metal, should be reasonable weight, damp, solid. I'm a big fan of Dynastar. Often overlooked, but some exceptional skis there. But, all the above are likely not HH approved, if that matters. Good luck in the search....and enjoy the demos.

At the end of the season you may find the SS speed at a good price esp. at a shorter length

Perry, Jim,
The Power One is, as Perry mentioned, the same as a Supershape....but not the original one. Rather, it is the same as the '07 and '08 SS Speed. Identical sidecut, same Freeflex 14 binding and race plate....just different graphics. My wife skis the '08 SS Speed.
In either guise, it is one heck of a ski.
Jim, just remind me again....is the Power One the same ski that caused Lynn the foot pain when she demoed a pair a few years ago? That's a puzzling symptom...I still can't figure out how a ski can make one's feet hurt. Very odd, that is.

Yes, the Power One was the ski. And yes it is a bit difficult to comprehend. She had the same reaction at Sugarbush on a Vist slalom ski with Vist plate.

Great to hear that Lynn is enjoying her Mya 8's, and finally got some on-snow time to connect with them. Nice. Any more feedback on that? Review coming?

I think Perry brings up a good point. If Lynn does go to a narrower ski (having a set objective and good reasons in mind for doing so), what else will she be giving up by switching from the Progressors? The P-8's are a non-Ti sandwich layup, and most sub-70 mm skis I have come across are significantly more beefy in construction -- SS Speed, RC4 Superior SC, etc., which all have metal layer(s). Exception perhaps is one the Fischer woman's models I noted above, but that is only 4 mm narrower than the P-8.
The Progressors are wonderful skis, and they will be hard (perhaps impossible?) to replace with something in the 66 mm size that isn't going to be like the Power One / SS Speed she loathed. My guess is the swap might be a net loss in suitability for a light skier like Lynn. Caveat being that I know nothing about the Mya 7 -- perhaps that one might work...?
Just some counterpoints here to think about.
Jim, have you considered a cheater fix for this? ie. raising the binding stand height to make the P-8's feel more like a narrower ski? An option might be a 13mm Tyrolia race plate with an LD12 binding. This would give you about 3 mm more stand height over her PRD12 binding. I'm no ski tech wiz, so not sure if this would make any difference, but perhaps others can chime in here to see if it's viable. From personal experience, I can say that going from a high stand ht. demo binding to a lower stock Z-13 race binding on my old Progressor 9's made a significant and noticeable difference in the handling of the skis. Definitely a less costly option for Lynn than new skis, in any case.

What she gives up in versatility by going to a narrower ski as compared to the a Progressor 8+/800 is an excellent point.
Increasing the stand height is a good idea, but it isn't compatible with our current traveling setup. She carries two pair of skis in a "single" sport tube and puts the bindings in her suitcase. Compact and light weight.
Of course, there is also the possibility that Lynn won't be able to feel the waist difference as much as she assumes.
