Yesterday reminded me why I love this little gem in the Hills of western, ma. Even with no off piste open (or skiable!), I still loved skiing there. Because it is never crowded (check the video and count the other skiers…..anywhere) and the surface conditions are the best south of Stowe. Seriously, you have to drive quite a ways north to find better trail conditions that what you'll get on a typical day at Berkshire East. We had rain and more crazy cold early this week, but wednesday and yesterday still were delightful to ski.
I sincerely hope a few Peak Skiers come out and join me, or Beastie Boy or GreenTrails for a day or two at the Little Mountain that Could: Berkshire East in Charlemont, MA!

If, and this is an IF, you are thinking about skiing in the Northeast anytime between friday of this week and the end of the President's weekend holiday, let me make a strong recommendation for Berkshire East. We are already at 100% open, and if the present prediction holds true (12-18 of heavy dense snow), we'll be killing it everywhere all weekend. Friday lift ticket is under 50 bucks, holiday tickets are under 65.00 for adults. Our on trail crowds are always much less than Southern VT or Jiminy Peak or any 'detonation resort) and the skiing will be killer, including trees, moguls, and great groomers.
Oh, and the new lodge is open and it is truly beautiful.
I'll be there tomorrow, Friday, Sat, Sunday and Monday….drop me a line if you chance by. If you'e been thinking about sampling this little gem, the next 4 days are the time to do it!
Just saying

Liam,
Are you going to do the all night skiing with the Patrol again? Looks like snowmageddon again. Thanks for the invite, I still hope to get there sometime this season.

Well, I was thinking of going up tonight and helping out with thursday night patrol…We were all sternly warned about the peril of our future employment should we enact Snowmageddon 2. Nice recall on that LP! Was a great night!
Right now, I am holding off on today and will be there crack o dawn tomorrow (storm is forecasted to still be spitting out snow until 10am tomorrow). It's pounding right now, at this rate, the 20 inch range isn't out of the question.
It'll be a fat ski and glade day regardless (for me).
I have to laugh, last wednesday, we skied and I'd say at least 90% of all skiers were on boards of 100mm or greater (and in many cases, much greater). And this is Massachusetts and not Jay Peak! But, locals know, if you want to chase freshies late in the day, and you only have 12 inches to work with (on a barren base), you'll choose float every time.
Anyway, it's getting real good at the Little mountain that could---Peakskiers should motivate if they want to see this gem at it's best.
I've finally booked my March trip to the PNW (won out over Silverton/ Smell Your Ride) based on cost and time (and I just had a real hankering to ski a totally new region as I have never set foot in the Washinton Cascades! Oh, and it has starting a snowy trend up there!.
