Just as Geoffda predicted, inadequate counter leads to loss of grip and a slide out. Those ice injected courses! Damn them. And if you will notice on the next photo, we still need to work on the A framing.

On the way home from an afternoon of lovely conditions at Elk mtn, we encountered some......obstacles. It began to mist our last run and the local temp at the base was 40 F. However, little microclimates occur in the valleys and the mist and 32F combo on a downhill curve led to a total loss of control on black ice. Absolutely no grip. We were going slow enough that no deployment of air bags occurred. Damage was all guardrail induced. The following 24 hours was pretty miserable as we were stranded in Carbondale, Pa without a way to get back the 35 miles to my place in NYS.
However, any crash you walk away from is a good one. I have a little brain trauma, but since my brain is pretty small to begin with, not too big a deal.
This was my first outing on the MYA 8's, but I don't remember if I liked them or not.

Ouch, that doesn't look like it was much fun. I guess Jim and I must have our biorhythms in sync since I also failed to counterbalance sufficiently and managed to hit a curb sideways with my left front wheel. Total damage is around $4K and my car will be sitting at the shop for the next 2 weeks at least (parts were ordered today). I was on my way to go skiing Saturday morning and the visibility was quite bad (it was dumping in town) and the roads had not been cleared (and no salt or gravel laid down).

HA We can't do any MA without pics or video.
Jim has already purchased a MIP's technology Scott Ski helmet.
I am looking for a MIP's technology car helmet. Helps concussions caused by snapping one's head against the passenger side window.

I mirror your comment -- OUCH. Now if only our "skiing" biorhythms come into sync like our "car driving" biorhythms. Maybe then I could have an Avatar like yours!!! Hope your repairs go smoothly. Hope mine do too. And if only Lynn could remember that SHE was driving.

Double OUCH!
East Coast weather has been a roller coaster over the past week. I remember seeing you post stating you were off to Elk on Sunday, when nobody in the Philly area could (or should) not leave the house. Then I noticed light freezing rain in north Pa. falling later in the day, which resulted in your damage.
Lynn, I hope you heal quickly and your fond memories of the new skis return. I also hope that your trip to the demo day is still on the schedule!
High Angles...I remember thinking in Tahoe that you drive as fast as you ski. You did some great work out there on some scary roads, especially coming home at night over the Mt. Rose highway. Hope you get a great rental car!

Lynn, wishing you a speedy recovery! The whack on the bean clearly hasn't dulled your dry humour. So it must be healing fast.
Just goes to show that even with snow tires and AWD, black ice will take anything out. Scary stuff.
All the best to you.

And frankly the thought of the day ending on light rain didn't faze us. (maybe it should have?) I SHOULD have been driving. I am much more familiar with the roads than Jim is. Just a mild concussion; taking a few days off of work to get "recalibrated". Many thanks for the good thoughts. L.
