What??? North Carolina is open before the north east!!!! Inconceivable! That's just wrong.

Perry:
There are a couple of things wrong with your post. 1. You're not on the East coast. Its clear to me that the east ends somewhere between Washington DC and Norfolk, and NC is clearly in the South. 2. Sugar may appear on a map to be in North Carolina, but when you drive up by it it "shore 'nuf feels like West by Gosh Virginny".
By the way, one of my sons graduated from Appalachian State and then got his Masters at NC State. Ohhh, and was Airborne at Ft. Bragg. (not to brag too much), so I'm not anti North Carolina. Blowing Rock, Outer Banks, Asheville area are all beautiful.

Nutty right! If you click on the link you see a line of snowmakers up the "main drag". I will sometimes go early in the season to get some runs in. I generally don't like the mtn because there is very little separation between good skiers and beginners. There are always people going down out of control, poles tucked firmly under their arms and sometimes screaming. (we won't even venture in to the snowboarders) I like the screaming ones because at least I know they are coming.

Hey Perry, glad your getting some...but ya just might want to wear some body armor in the event one of those screamn' mimes fakes left and turns right!!!
Saw the run on the web link...looks smooth as the interstate! Oh yeah....eastern skiers live and die by their edges!
Enjoy P....

Here is a video of one of the snowboarders down here.
(funny - a parody from a friend of my son, he is a good actor and very bright - can't tell that from the video)

TOO funny Perry.... I thought that one of the riders buddies, with the beard...gesh man...looked just like you. Yeah..just joshing ya. But,.... I did notice, having skied with you, that the riders edging technique and unique balance is SO you....he is a fabulous student..and you know what they say about immitation... Nice job P! Here's hoping you bring some of that technique up north soon!! Best, G

During the cold wave last week, my home mountain blew snow for a day, and, posted some pics on Facebook. It was funny reading the comments, especially from those who wanted the mountain to open up for a "soft" opening. Ha ha, this is S/E Pennsylvania! Blue responded by stating that Black Friday, in 10 days, is the planned opening...and it will be 60 today. No way, no how!
It's always been surprising that skiing is possible in North Carolina. The Appalachian Mountains are spectacular, been to NC and driven the Ashville, Blowing Rock areas. From a weather standpoint, the warm east coastal areas stop when they hit the Appalachains. The Appalachian Trail is located right above my local home mountain, and, the mountain ownership has to deal with many environmental issues as they are located at the Trails edge.
