Thoughts of next year's skiing trips keep rolling around my brain. I've got pretty much a blank canvas, the Epic Gathering will be in Jackson Hole in early March, but, I really want to do a 7-10 day western trip in late March, so, it does not fit well. The plan is to go west twice next season, so, much to consider. What I don't want to do is leave home in March when I can still ski locally. Spring skiing in the West just pulls at my heart.
In discussions with Gary, we've talked about perhaps doing Jackson during the January week he is there, or, perhaps join Gary and Svend in Banff in March. Their Banff trip is mid-March, I think, and may be a little too early, but, as Banff is on my bucket list, it's a very strong possibility. While I love Jackson, I've been there many times, and, want to do something different.
Another possibility is a group of friends from Epic usually hit Utah in late January when powder can rule.
Gary also talked about perhaps joining him on a visit to Ron in Steamboat. I was last there when my now year old son was an infant. Guess it may be time to see the Boat again. Phil and Trish have issued an open invitation to Lake Tahoe, which may be a great spring trip.
Would really like to get to the Gary International Guys (only until a woman joins us) Trip to Hollimount. Love to ski with Heluva again.
So...any other thoughts of someplace interesting. Not sure if there are opportunities for connecting with other Peak Skiers, but, let us know where you are thinking of heading to. Afterall, ski season is just a few months away.

LP,
Do them all! You clearly deserve to sample all of these skiing venues and more.
Ever skied Europe? The Alps are something else. I've got an Australian ski bud who talks of the powder fields of Japan. Skiing and sake ... sounds good to me.
Or go see the FIS World Alpine Ski Championship the first two weeks of February at Beaver Creek for some eye-popping turns.

Hey Mike....I like you try and get my dates filled in for skiing...certainly keeps me pumped knowing there are some great ski trips coming. So far I know we've got Jackson Hole Jan 18-24th and the Holiday Valley International Ski Outing is Feb 2-4th.
Last year there were four of us that went to Powder Mountain Mountain and that was a blast. Maybe we could be looking at a late March to Jackson, Steamboat, maybe Alta.
Let's start talking dates and places, then put something together. The things I like to consider is travel time and ease of access. For the dollar value, Powder Mountain daily rates were so reasonable, I think $65 per day. Where most other resorts are hovering around $100. Still, it's all about the snow and the experience. Jackson certainly had a banner year last year.
Hey Todd...I'd love to ski in Japan...the snow looks amazing there...it's just the travel time it takes to get er done.

Yesterday would've been a sweet powder day except it came down melted. Today was a bluebird day.
Positive thought for the day: unlike with skis, it's best not to hot wax or file bicycle tires daily ... a low maintenance sport. (Plus Gary is not known to "bless" bicycles.)

Hey Todd...I just saw a recent pic of Jackson Hole area....gesh...still looks like winter up in them there hills!
There will be no waxing of filing of bike tires but a I would however be happy to bless your tires if you wish to pay for shipping both ways.
Man....I miss making ski turns! G

Gary, Do you have a bulk pricing deal? If we were all to ship our bike tires, what sort of discount could we expect? Do you charge extra for fancy specialty tires like Jim Ratliff rides? I see that Loveland started the snowmaking countdown clock a couple months early this summer. That coupled with your Jackson pic must mean something good is in store for us come autumn :-)
Scarcely 100 days are left until they've blown out the mice and started the A-Basin / Loveland race to nirvana. The mighty K has opened 3 Octobers in a row (and missed the previous October by only 2 days.) I sense an impending repeat of 1997 with an eastern opening date of October 1. It's time to start getting in shape to hike with gear in ski boots the Stairway To Heaven from the top of the North Ridge Triple up to the K-1 Gondola for downloading. lower section of the Stairway to Heaven

Hi Todd....what a pic....sweet. Hard for me to get my head around it when it's going to be near 90 here in upstate NY today. Still...I see my skis and boots each morning in my gym....lusting away for those turns I so miss...but not wanting time to fly so quickly that I miss the enjoyment of today!
As for bulk pricing...sure what the heck...I'll get some cheap beer and make sure I'm stocked up on blessing fluid!
As for Jim's "fancy" tires...hell man...they all still go round and round! Hmmmm, skis JUST go down hill..oh boy....is that why I have 3 pairs of skis???...too funny!
Power to the pedal baby!

It's time to start getting in shape to hike with gear in ski boots the Stairway To Heaven from the top of the North Ridge Triple up to the K-1 Gondola for downloading. lower section of the Stairway to Heaven Todd, Not been back to K'ton since the rainy day we skied. Never noticed the Stairway to Heaven, but, the North Ridge Chair is a favorite of the guys I skied with there. On very warm spring days, the snow there would be the best on the mountain, but, I hate short, slow chair rides. They like a narrow, treeish run called, I think, Power Line. Anyway, it's a good hike back to the K1 summit, and, it would be some great training. Talk about climbing for turns! Hmmm, maybe a early October mini-trip may be added to my next season ski list. As Gary said, it' hard to get my mind around actual skiing. I keep waking up at 5:30 with the rising summer sun. 90's in Philly today, but, low 80's at the Jersey shore. Just getting back to regular road bike riding at a rate of 100 mi/week. My body is in mini-revolt, ageing body is not liking my brain telling the knees that they are 20 years younger. With respect to doing all the trips on my wish list, the total cost would be 50% of everything I own, as, would no longer have wifey to welcome be back home. A-Basin closes this weekend, they had a great spring run.
