Yeah, I know, I always hold my camera phone sideways, but these vids were taken by the kid. They still work just fine, however: Ski life in vertical relief!

Fun pics and video. Looks like a demanding mountain, but a fun challenge!
So many mountains and so few vacation days!

Ok, I'm officially jealous. I spent 35 years living in Washington and Crystal is near and dear to my heart. Terrain-wise, Crystal is easily on par with the best the U.S. has to offer. The weather often sucks and the snow can be heavy, but when it is good it is hard to beat. My last days at Crystal were over Thanksgiving of '06, the winter before we moved to CO. It snowed 6' over two days and the snow was unbelievably dry. Blower powder in Washington which doesn't happen often. I was skiing off the Throne and was in the white room when I hit the bootpack. Lost a ski and was lucky to find it after close to an hour of searching. Skiing every day in the CO sunshine is hard to beat, but I'll always miss the deep snow and steep mountains of Washington state.

Yeah, I got the sense that Crystal was weather-challenged. The Number of Times we Started in the sun at the top, skied through a heavy snow, and then arrived at a foggy bottom (or the reverse!) was laughable. I came to think of the weather as 'schizophrenic.', chaining from run to run and chair ride to chaired. But the terrain and snow was delightful. Compared to Colorado skiing, sure the snow is dense and and there is a lack of sunshine….but compared to New England skiing…well, it was an improvement (because we get heavy snow and low sunlight day…but it's way friggin' colder and more likely to get 'other' types of precipitation.
I am glad to hear my sentiments confirmed by a well-traveled strong skiing ex-local, though! 6 feet in two days, huh? Those PNW Cascades are something else (probably the one area we can all agree there's a place for really big skis in your quiver!).
I haven't been to Colorado in about 5-6 years (I've been twice, 2 weeks total). Great areas, but I have no interest in returning to Summit-Eagle County (Though, I have never skied Steamboat and I suspect my family would enjoy that resort a great deal), but I still plan on doing a Telluride-Silverton trip before I am too old to really enjoy it!
