Regarding self-assessment, I think of myself as a bad skier in the grand scheme of things. Guys like my friends Glen and Kamden are good skiers. Guys like Hirscher, Matt, and Neureuther are great skiers. I always compare myself against the best in the world, because I figure that's the goal. Some would say that's limiting, but this is a casual pursuit for me, and I know I'll never be in a position to advance the sport. I usually refer to myself that way until a friend tells me I'm not allowed to anymore, because it makes people around me feel uncomfortable. That happened for me with skiing a couple/few years ago, and with kayaking last year. When asked now, I usually answer "I'm okay" about both. Most of the guys I know who are very, very good answer similarly. I've never been fishing for compliments; I'm just deathly afraid of hubris, and like making fun of people. If I make fun of myself, I know the target won't be offended..

I'm on my 997 pole touch and therefore it's ALMOST perfect!
It's nice to see with all the responses here how much personal gratification all here get! Cheers, G
Ya know Gary, I wasn't all that impressed when I first read this, but now that Heluva has shed a bit of light on the topic, I think I am quite impressed.

Pole touches are for ski bunnies. Lol.
If you're successful in this, you may even be able to show those same ski bunnies a pole plant.
