Welcome to the Peak Skier Zone, double entendre on Peak being intentional. But, to be more correct, Peak Recreational Skiers....more of a social site. Few here will claim to be a truly Peak skiers performing at highest levels.
This forum was originally created by Peter Keelty as an adjunct to his RealSkiers subscription site (which has been taken over by Jackson Hogan this year, see more information in the "Other Ski Sites" forum.
Due to Peter's time constraints, administration of this forum was assumed by some volunteers who enjoyed the social aspect of talking skis with other skiers, and in fact many of the core group have skied with each other over the years. This "Gear Forum" is aimed at skiers wishing to talk to other skiers about things of interest to skiers. That "sometimes" includes skis, ski gear, and ski technique, but one of our larger threads one spring was actually about Expresso machines. The subject just seemed to never die. And every thread eventually includes a fair amount of "social chit-chat" and that's OK.
The only real guidelines are:
In the discussions you will often hear mention of the PMTS teaching method vs. PSIA teaching. There are other places that debate the merits of each, sometimes too vigorously. We don't want the "too vigorously" aspect to happen here, and that's the reason we call it the "neutral zone". You may also hear viewpoints from people that prefer relatively narrower skis vs. relatively wider skis. Again, both viewpoints are valid and the people presenting those viewpoints deserve to be treated as fellow humans (or, as we ourselves would like to be treated).
If asking for ski suggestions or contributing ski reviews, also post something that tells others a lot about you as a skier. How long you've been skiing, height and weight range, how well you think you ski, where you ski, what other skis you plan to continue to use or what terrain you want these skis for. The goal is that an "all mountain" ski for the Eastern skier should get different suggestions than an "all-mountain" ski for use in the Rockies. But remember that getting a ski recommendation is just others skiers opinions, similar to what you might get if you asked the guy on the chairlift for a recommendation. He may not be the same type of skier as you.
Welcome!! Feel free to introduce yourself in a thread. We are glad to have new people to talk ski stuff with.
NOTE: The old PeakSkierZone site is still available at www.PeakSkierZone.smfnew.com but it is still going to be as slow and erratic as it had become. Feel free to copy any content from that site to this.

The only real guidelines are:
- No matter what the topic of the thread, people get treated with respect, and no matter what someone's opinion, it's an opinion they are entitled to,
- we don't want to be heavy handed in moderating other's posts and we expect content that keeps it like that, and
- ski reviews from other sites are private property of that forum and should not be copied on this forum.
