Ohh, they also have some geysers and boiling mud pits and steam rising from hot water everywhere. It really begins to look pretty other-worldly.

We had a lot of rain (I think 1/2" is considered a lot of rain here) on the drive from Yellowstone to Salt Lake City and were concerned, but our good luck continued, with Alta reporting 6" of new snow and no indication of any rain effects, and it seemed as if there was at least 10" back in Catherine's Area (the only "hike to" skiing that we do. Another great day of skiing. Tomorrow is Solitude in the Big Cottonwood Canyon, and then on to Vail.

Jim and Lynn
Thanks for the pics as they bring back memories from last years Jackson/Big Sky vacation. Big Sky was more crowded during our trip ( it was Canadian spring break fueled ), so no late day powder on groomers. Glad you got some powder, we got very little in early April. The tram should be billed as "for marketing purposes only" as the one hour wait you described was common. What a waist of resources if only 15 people can go every 15 minutes, but, the view is spectacular on a clear day. I never thought of the lack of a mid-mountain restaurant as much of an issue, but, doing the walks to some eating places in the village was not fun. Just guessing, but, the light skier traffic keeps the economic justification difficult plus does not support the existing village shops. Did you use your radio system there? That's one place where if you loose your partner, it can be a long time before seeing them again. I'll always be glad I went there, not sure if I'd return in the near future.
On our drive, both ways, we encountered a heard of buffalo standing in the middle of the road, my eastern mindset could not believe the signs stating "slow - buffalo crossing ahead". Strange but true. Did you pass Targhee without stopping? I loved the winter front and rear drive system on the tour bus, and, Lynn looks very chic, and NYCish! West Yellowstone, especially in winter, was a very different town than I've ever experienced.
Enjoy Utah, our last day was Solitude and we lucked out with over of foot of new snow. The drive to Vail has some magnificent scenery along the way, definitely some of the more remote roads I've traveled.

Mike: I didn't remember that the Epic ski trip included Big Sky and West Yellowstone. Good for you. As far as the radios, Lynn and I use them all of the time and really like them. We forgot them one day and it was noon before we adjusted to not being easily able to chat. They don't help if we really get separated, but they help us a lot not to get separated in the first place. If we actually get lost, we revert to cell phones (or our emergency plan, return to the last lift we rode). Yes, we bypassed Targhee. Lynn had to get to Vail one day earlier than we thought. Here's a picture of my "sophisticated" mounting system for the headset on my helmet. Fortunately, the goggle strap hides most of the "color coordinated" duct tape.

So I skied the soul7 at steamboat. A very fun ski and surprising good on groomers. Skied the ridge and lower Deso's Descent to Big Meadow and also Shadows to Dawn and also off Quickdraw. Snow was not super light "champagne" but still light for me. Great float and quick for the size which was 106 waist and 188 length. The shadows was kind of " luge" run already skied terrain and very difficult for me. Some of that due to last run of the day and rubber legs. Definitely a great western ski.
Snow on the way for tomorrow. Will be on the Rev 85 or maybe the Venturi.

ehh, yeah, Shadows is usually luged out if you dont get it early.. We have to ski together on a pow day. So many great places that aren't well known. BTW- I forget your weight but unless you are over 180# the 180 is just fine for the boat and makes luge runs a lot easier
