It sounds like a lot of various ski trips in the next couple of weeks. Lynn and I are leaving for Colorado on Feb 1st, but it looks like we missed the big snow. www.OpenSnow.com (thank you for that website, HighAngles) is saying that Colorado along and south of I-70 should get 1-2 feet of snow the latter part of this week. If Mike is already at Aspen, then he may get to REALLY test those 98's. But there will certainly be left over packed powder for us next week. Hope all, both eastern and western, have fun and safe skiing. Jim

Yep, Mike absolutely nailed this one. Talk about timing. We all know just how hard it is to time a cross-country ski trip to the weather. I'm heading up to Summit County in a couple hours. I'm hoping to reap the white rewards over the next 2 days.

We are in Snowmass awaiting the storm. Today's conditions were not as good as we hoped and the snow that fell yesterday did not produce the 9 in some talked about. The base is some packed power, mostly lots of firm semi-eastern snow. Still a great sunny day until 1:30, the clouds are tracking in. We decided to extend the Aspen visit be a day, so, if the goods are delivered, we will be here through Friday. I'ts supposed to snow for a total of 36 hours, with 20" to 30" locally. We are very hopeful it comes to be. Aspen Mtn. tomorrow.

Most of the ski areas along I-70 reported 30-35 inches new snow Friday thru Saturday, and we had a great day to sample some of what was left. Bluebird day with highs in the upper 20's. This picture of Lynn is out in Oriental Bowl after the poma lift.

Jim,
Didn't they change the name of that to the Asian Bowl?
Looks wonderful, how did it ski?

Jim, Didn't they change the name of that to the Asian Bowl? Looks wonderful, how did it ski? They might have, I haven't picked up a trail map in a couple of years (or I may just be plain wrong, thinking of the lift name). The snow was a bit heavy but still in good shape, skiers at altitude first day not quite as aerobically adjusted. But it was still a good first day.

Sbm: I actually thought you might be right, that Vail had decided they needed to be more PC. I just checked the trail map and I was completely wrong. At the right end is China Bowl, Siberian Bowl, Inner Mongolian and Outer Mongolian bowls. We were in the Bolshoi Ballroom area between Siberian and Inner Mongolian, and you should have seen Lynn 'dancin' her way through the fluff. TMI? Probably.
A little bit more snow forecast for tonight.

JIm….I was just making a joke about the word 'oriental' I had no idea what the real names of the Vail bowls were.
