FWIW, Forerunner still has 1 pair of 170 cm Head X Shape STX left for $299 incl PR binding left. I couldn't resist the deal Described as like a detuned non-KERS SS it's got the HH seal of approval www.pmts.org/pmtsforum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3432Talkin SMACK! very tempting.

So I had an interesting ski day yesterday. Took the old Mags and the Rev 85 to the hill. Started out with the Mags to get the rust off my skiing. They were fine but uninspiring. Decided to switch out at lunch just to compare. I was really surprised! Right away I could feel that there was more energy in the Rev 85 and I felt the smile come back on my face. In comparison the old mags felt stiff and less responsive (I don't know what year they are but it is one of the origninal years of the SS mag. The temps were up and the snow was soft so still no idea how the Rev does on hard snow. They are very fun on groomers and you can feel some rebound from them - nothing dramatic but a nice bit of energy that tell you they are enjoying the day as well.
This was a surprising result. I would have bet money that on groomers that I preferred the Mags better. Makes me believe that my old Mags really are skied out. It also tells me what we say to one another all the time - got to demo. I am tempted to make an impulse buy on the Xshape but if I don't like it, how easy is it going to be to sell? So I am waiting to demo or maybe I should just ski more......and use the Rev85.
Svend, just curious, what is you boot sole measurement? Mine is 327mm, so if yours is the same we can just click in and out...that would be too easy and fun.

Perry: I skied a Fischer Super SC yesterday and found it a quite delightful ski. Rep said it is pretty much the same ski as the old RX8, which went away when they introduced their Progressor line. Easy to bend (doesn't require speed), solid on edge (even on a bit of ice). I don't think it has as much energy or pop as the old SuperShape (and I don't think the Xshape STX does either). Dimensions were 120-67-100 for the Reference Length 165 (he only had a 170 with him). For me, I would get the 165 if I were buying.

Perry, my BSL is 315 mm. But no matter - the bindings on my Nordica's adjust in seconds....lever, slide, lock, done. Depending on your binding type, could be doable on yours too. Jim, i looked for the Fischer Super SC, but came up blank. There is one called the Superior SC. www.fischersports.com/us/Alpine/Products/Skis/Race/2393-RC4-Superior-SC
Must be the one. In reading the German ski review and forum sites over the years, they have long held the Superior models in high regard, up there with the Progressor 9/900, etc. Nice skis.

My bad. That was the ski. The waist is in the high 60's versus the P900's waist in the mid 70's. I was pleased with the turn radus and the hold without it feeling like a stiff slalom ski.

My bindings work the same. So one click either way and we will be good.

That is a sweet looking ski. If indeed it is the RX8 incarnate, i wonder why no one has heard of it? It certainly doesn't seem to have the buzz around it that the RX8 had. Is it a new model? I know the Superior RC (GS sidecut) has been around a while, at least in Europe. You would think that Fischer would make a bigger deal about the SC's lineage, create some interest and sales. i know at least one skier that would have a blast on this ski....our youngest daughter. At some point she will have skied to death her P-8's, which are looking a bit long in the tooth (Perry can do the post mortem ), and this would make a brilliant replacement. Good find Jim. Thanks for sharing that. Will you do a review?

So I am waiting to demo or maybe I should just ski more......and use the Rev85. I think you might be pleasantly surprised at how well the Rev grips on hard snow. If it's anything like it's immediate predecessor, the Peak 84, it should do great. I skied the Peak for a day out west (184 length) when the morning snow was rock hard refrozen corduroy, and they gripped perfectly with nary a skid. The Rev is supposedly every bit as good in all parameters as the Peak, incl. edge hold. You may not need another ski. But perhaps Jim can compare the edge hold of the Mag vs. the Peak/Rev? He owned the former; now owns the one of the latter (I can't remember which). FWIW, I just read a German ski review of a dozen all-mtn models, and the Rev85 came out on top, against some pretty good competition. Impressive.

I'm starting to think that what I am looking for is another slalom like ski - quick and narrow. That is definitely one of the things I liked about the Rx8. That will affect how I demo. I have been on the 177 cm Heads but will definitely want to try the 170cm. Will have to check the inventory in that Demo hut again - almost nothing more than 170cm but there were a couple of those.

I just looked at the demo list for Bristol too, and you're right, there's not much there over 170. And most of their lineup seems to be last year's or older. What's up with that? Can't really call it a proper demo center if they are no longer available.
For short radius carvers, they have some Fischers Progressors - the 800, 900, and 1000 - and the Elan Waveflex 14. That's about it. All great skis, though. Some potential fun to be had there.
