So, I spent 2 days on skis for the first turns of the season. And what a great feeling it was! The cold weather this week enabled my home mountain to open almost all trails, my ski friends tell me they were soooo tired of skiing the same 3 trails. Conditions were about as-good-as-it-gets at Blue. Skiing on Thursday was also about as cold as it gets, in single digits until noon. Unfortunately, my selection of ski clothing was a disaster as I left both face mask and down sweater at home. After 2 hours, had to return to the base lodge to stop shaking. Had the best cup of hot chocolate ever! Clearly a situation where I should have known better, perhaps over-thinking early season technique. I loaded some spare layering gear into the trunk and it will remain all season.
BTW, love the new Smith IOX goggles for the large peripheral vision field of view.
I'm curious as to the discrepancy between my couple of days and the number of days skied by others who post here. How many days do you have? I'm thinking I will win the award for fewest days this season.

2 days so far... Video on day 1... See yourself at your worst. That's how you improve.

6 days, no video, feeling like I'm World Cup ready. That balloon will burst in a couple of weeks at the Super Blue camp.
LP: I'm impressed at you braving the recent East Coast weather. Lynn and I had considered Elk tomorrow, but looked at the single digits forecast for tomorrow all morning and decided it was more of a fireplace morning.

In a twisted sort of way, it is very pleasing to be on pace with HelluvaSkier! Greg, just curious, but, what do you work on during your first days. There are so many PMTS concepts that it is hard to focus on one or two. I think that I skis best when simply committing all weight to the new stance ski and just focus on being balanced. So simple, yet, at times so difficult.
Jim, The weather was cold, but, not windy, mostly sunny, so it was pleasant to ski once adequately layered. The issue I experience yesterday was Friday crowds and a local GS race resulted in way too many people skiing the limited open trails, three major trails were not open. I passed on the Elk demo day, largely due to still getting my technique together. Not much sense in trying new skis when still sucking on my existing stuff. BTW, spent both days on my old Supershapes, and, they are now retired as the bindings are being put on my Fischer Sl's. RIP, they served me very well and will be missed.

LP: Have you been on the Fischers yet, or still pending bindings? I'm really liking my new Fischer "pseudo SL" skis, but I can't wait to hear what you think of yours.

I have about 12-14 days in, though a lot of these have been 2-3 hour quickies.

Jim, My plan was to spend a couple of days on the Supershapes, and, then to remove the Head FreeFlex 14 bindings and put them on the Fischer Sl's. I took the bindings off yesterday, and, on Tuesday will have the shop at Blue Mountain install them on the Sl's. Still a little leery of the Fischers after HelluvaSkiers warnings especially in the early season when technique is rusty. Hopefully a report out will be coming next week. Liam I'd love to be able to do 2 to 3 hour stints and wish my home mountain was closer than a 1:40 minute drive. Ski hard and go home. It also keeps your conditioning up as the ski specific muscles get exercised. A learning this season is my calf muscles are very sore as they were not a specific area of the training program. Damn this ageing body!

So simple, yet, at times so difficult. Balance mostly. Lateral and fore/aft with a focus on listening to the feedback in getting from the ski. I shoot video to ensure everything is in the right place, then start working on improving.

I've got 16 or 18 days in so far, I think. I got started early with a trip to Colorado, though.
