.... seeing snow in the air and knowing that the snow guns are going, has tickled the itch. Hoping to make some turns this coming weekend. The 'Loaf opened today. Was able to get out. Nice to be back on skis again. Now for the bad news: this aging thing sucks. Not only are my legs saying, "what the heck are you doing to us?", my memory banks are shot. Lets see, release, engage, transfer or is it release, transfer, engage? As I was trying to ski, the mind and body were not on the same page, let alone not even on the same trail. I guess it is back to remedial ski camp in Dec.

Meput,
Having just skied 3 days at A-Basin, I can confirm that the first day on snow with poor movement patterns can tire the legs and send them into open rebellion. Luckily there is a simple remedy to make the next day better: stretch, ski another full day, and focus on aggressive relaxation.

And I wasn't recovering from a prior concussion. I guess it was just because my first name was Jim?

Some random thoughts:
In earlier days, I would take several days early in December and go ski wherever snow existed in the east. Miss those trips very much. I am to be Father-of-the-Bride on 12/13/14, and, have promised no skiing prior to the big day. Hmmm, did I overpromise? We'll see what happens.
Meput...Glad the 'loaf has opened and you made some turns. With the upcoming major cold front, my little Pa ski area is making some noise about an early opening. For us it's a 500' vertical chair and one trail. It looks like an expressway traffic and scares the !!!! out of me to ski it.
Todd....Props for opening up at ABasin. With all the other aspects of just getting back on skis, that altitude not fun for we sea level dwellers. Ski all day, then drink that good beer all night...returning to work must feel like a vacation.
It's great to talk real skiing again.

LivingProof: Congratulations, and my compliments to your daughter for picking a wedding day that will make it forever easy for hubby to remember the anniversary. :-)

Luckily there is a simple remedy to make the next day better: stretch, ski another full day, and focus on aggressive relaxation. Ah to be young again. I used to use a similar remedy back in college. At that time it was: party hardy, wake up with hang over. Luckily there was a simple remedy: take aspirin, drink Bloody Mary, and party hardy. Ski Day 2 & 3. This weekend. Actually better than Day 1. More terrain, better conditions (actually very nice for early season). Mind and legs starting to remember what to do. Over 12,000 vert on Saturday without the legs feeling bad. Sunday not so much. Todd's recovery technique didn't work. By 7,000 vert, it was "shut up legs," to quote Jens Voight. Won't be able to do 2 days in a row next weekend. But when I do, maybe I will have to try my old college recovery technique. LP, congrats to you and your daughter. I am not trying to create trouble, but, it is great to be back on skis. Waiting until 12/14 to ski is an awful long time.

Meput,
My home mountain is making snow, maybe next week the stars might just align. Blue did some serious upgrades to snowmaking pumps and should be able to open soon. It is very low probability that Pa ski areas can open in November, so, not at all unusual for my skiing to begin in mid December. I'm in disucssions with a friend to ski Stratton mid-week following the big event.

It is okay to participate in risky behavior immediately prior to a wedding. My younger daughter got married on 10/12/14. On day before the wedding, went zip lining at Bretton Woods zip line course (very nice course for any of you zip line aficionados). My older daughter (maid of honor, and whom some of this forum members have met) and I were the only members of the wedding party doing the zip line and we both survived it unscathed. Yes Jim, the ease of "remembering" the date did filter into the choice of 10/12/14. We also "knew" the weather was going to be gorgeous, on that date, for an outside wedding.

meput,
Ziplining sounds fun ... and more memorable than many pre-wedding activities. Maybe LP will find something similar.
I had days 4 and 5 this past weekend. Conditions were good for early season East Coast. I can gladly report that each day is significantly easier than the previous. But then, I'm just a kid being not quite 50 and still in my original DIN settings ;-)
PS Inquiring minds want to know: when will we hear about Lynn's new skis?
