I wonder how Meput is fairing with the damage from the storm, Maine has thousands without power? In my consulting career, I was team member participating in a electric reliability review proposal aimed at evaluating how utility poles might fare in a major storm. Our team was not selected for the assignment, but, I would have spent over a month doing surveys had we won. I did get to do a quick look at their infrastructure, a lot of miles of polelines, few people to put the damage back to right. I wish them well, it can be a massive effort. 60's tomorrow so a warm-up due.
Have not read of any resorts opening.

I remember the October Storm a few years ago that dropped 30 inches on Berkshire East (and killed power for a week in Massachusetts), what followed was the worst winter in modern memory…I hope these early storms portend better than the last time.

Then Maine should be safe. Sugarloaf and Sunday River each got about 3" out of the storm. The associated colder temps allowed both areas to turn on the snow making. SR opened one trail today that required uploading to a higher lift to ski an upper trail, then downloading to get back to the base. They are shutting down until next weekend to hopefully make more snow. Weather is scheduled to warm up until Saturday. Sugarloaf did not open today. They are planning to keep the snow as whales until it gets colder. The significant snow that mother nature gave Maine was farther downeast, Bangor and east. Sugarloaf, Sunday River and Saddleback are all in the Maine western mountains (even Mainers go "west" to ski ). I understand that Kmart opened today. They too were doing a lower lift upload to an upper lift and trail, then having to do a download to base. Todd, were you there? No power problems where I live. Most of the capital region where my home is got ~3-6". I live on one of Belgrade Lakes and my micro climate caused 0" of snow in my dooryard. When it comes to plowing and shoveling, that's my kind of snowstorm . But yes, seeing snow in the air and knowing that the snowguns are going, has tickled the itch. Hoping to make some turns this coming weekend.

I'll be at A-Basin / Loveland this coming weekend and Kmart the following weekend. I find that if I start a season with the K-crowds and narrowish slopes, that really bad habits get engrained in my skiing. So I try to open each season in Colorado. (And Lord Knows I need all the help I can get :-) I'll also be checking to confirm that Colorado is adequately stocked with Pepsi for an early December Jim Ratliff birthday celebration, should he choose to bless Colorado with his presence that week.

I'm on a flight to Colorado next Wednesday to get my season started and for camp. When do you come back, Todd?
Is their artificial snow softer than ours, too? I'm bringing two pairs of skis with me, and wonder if I can get 5 days/pair without having to wax or sharpen..

I''m taking a redeye flight back to NYC arriving just in time for work Monday. I'll be sure to leave some snow for you.
A-Basin does a good job of grooming the front runs in early season even in low snow conditions. You won't need a file unless you find a rock.

Take notes and post camp updates so I can live vicariously through your experiences. Which camp is it?

Thanks, Todd! I'm also glad you're testing the Pepsi for Jim, since I'll be focused mostly on the beer.
Jim, I'm going to Short Turns camp. I may bring a laptop, after all. We'll see. It'll be a surprise!

Sorry Dan. You may be out of luck. I make no guarantees that any stores of decent beer will be left here when we're done.
