Although Gary never used the term "poetry in motion" to describe my skiing. ? That sounds like a good thing. What Gary left out, is he hates poetry - especially when it won't stay put, gets really annoyed when people don't obey leash laws, finds golf to be about as fun as watching grass grow no matter how far you think you can drive, and the only thing he likes less than successful con artists is poorly done adolescent Leonardo DiCaprio movies.

Hey Greg...I just read this and about fell off my chair laughing....your mind is a very strange (beautiful) place!
Ok you other maniacs...it's snowing here in Rochester today!!! I've tuned and waxed 12 pairs of skis...no Greg not all mine.
This darkness fast and raining weather...gonna be the end of my little left sanity!
OH Yeah...I just ordered some Anon M2 Goggles with the Red Solax and Blue Lagoon lenses....the world already is looking better! The lens change over is amazingly fast, lens quality and overall peripheral vision....excellent. Helmet fit with my Smith is perfect. I love the high density foam they use to seal against your face ...it seals very well and I don't think the foam will disintegrate as quickly as many others I've had.
Wait... I hear the song, "I can see clearly now the snow is coming..." Ok...it's my song!

Just looked at the extended forecast.....bring all the warm ski clothing gear you own. Last time I was there, it took 15 minutes for my boots to warm up before I could get them off my feet, duplicate conditions are expected. Elliocottville can be one damn cold place.
On the positive side, I plan on driving to Gary's on Friday, and, ski Bristol with him Saturday. Even better is that Gary can't keep from looking at and then tuning my skis. I can visualize him shaking his head and ranting about my tunes. I have similar nightmares about HeluvaSkier commenting on my skiing.

Leash laws are only for bad doggies. What's eating Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries are awesome films and Dicrapio was great in them. Nobody really likes poetry. He's right about Golf.

Just a quick summary of the 3 days of the IGST (International Guy's Ski Trip)
On Sunday, day 1, we did Hollimount as guests of HelluvaSkier and his far better looking half Kathleen. Gary's name could not be found on the approved guest log-in, somehow, he did get approved. Svend did the border crossing, Gary's son Joe has a snow removal business and the weather forecast made him stay home. Our Chief Mod Jim was a last minute cancellation due to the pending snow storm that called for up to 17 inches. Our core group was 8 skiers, plus our hosts. Just a great winter day of skiing, Hollimount was very uncrowded, conditions were very nice eastern snow. Good day for all. I'll do another thread about my Helluva lesson, as I spent the afternoon with the human rocketship, and, two very nice looking women.
Monday was the real deal 8 to 10 inches of light eastern powder, and, almost nobody at the mountain. We could still find patches of powder at quitting time. Locals could not remember a better day. Svend and I did many runs together, Gary was even sighted for several runs on a powder day, mostly coaching us groomer skiers up. Hollimount is great to learn powder as there were many blue runs to start, then we headed for the blacks where steeper short pitches exist. There was a ton of whooping and hollering, high 5's, smiles all day long. We were tired puppies at days end. Super Bowl party that night in our hotel lobby, mucho pizza, chicken breasts, beer, wine and fine bourbon and Canadian whiskey.
Tuesday, Holimount was groomed into perfect eastern snow. Best eastern corduroy I've experienced in a long time. Sun finally came out mid morning, we just kept ripping, well, as well as we rip. Gary is smooth! Two perfect days back to back.
Thanks G for being the glue that binds this trip together.

Hey Mike...thanks for the kind words..and YES...it was a great trip if not THE best trip our group has had to date. So sorry that for weather reasons, some couldn't be there but those of us that made the trip, renewed our friendship and shared in some spectacular conditions and awesome meals. AND...the Super Bowl was pretty darn exciting too!
Our event started at Bristol which Mike has decided to name as his home mountain. The terrain was in great shape, fast and pretty long runs with the 1200 Vert. Sunday at Holimont with our host Kathleen and Greg, we find smiles and welcomes to such a great ski resort. My fav by far over Holiday Valley. With the forecast for snow all were excited about getting first tracks Monday morning and we just lapped it all up. There was even left overs on Tuesday. first thing in the morning Tuesday, the snow was "quiet" snow...just dream to turn in...every edge set was met with deep carves that were a dream to make. Kudos to Holimont for leaving us pow to ski on Monday and grooming it deep for Tuesday...let me tell ya...THEY know how to do it right.
It's such a pleasure to ski with passionate skiers who smiles were across their faces all day long. Some of which this trip was their first days on snow.
I even got to ski my entire quiver....the 83's on Sat and Sun...the 115's on Monday and the 94's for left over pow and groomers on Tues....LOL...I'm so spoiled!
Everyone picked up their ski game after such a variety of snow conditions to ski in. It was truly a spectacular event that we welcome any and all to join us in next year.
Thanks Mike for the comradery and the IPA.....look forward to making turns with all again!

Wellll, I missed it. I had planned on leaving for the GISO as soon as we got back from the Harb camp. However, while sitting in the Denver airport waiting to fly back I got a call from Living Proof letting me know that they had upgraded the snow forecast from around 8" to around 15" and I got spooked and decided to opt out. BIG MISTAKE. I think the actual snowfall was more like the original forecast, and I obviously missed out on some great skiing and a great time (and a great Super Bowl). It's amazing how all of that activity already seems so long ago.
As penance for missing that last big snowfall, Lynn and I decided to do an impulse trip up to SugarBush this past weekend. It started snowing about the time we reached Killington on the way up, and it never really stopped by the time we left on Monday. About 4-6" of fresh snow each day.
However, this WAS one of those times where I changed my goggle lens to the low-light Smith Blue Sensor Mirror and stayed with it for all three days.

I'm not following you….why would 15 inches of snow scare you away from a ski day, but 8 inches seem better? You don't want more snow??

I'm not following you….why would 15 inches of snow scare you away from a ski day, but 8 inches seem better? You don't want more snow?? Had nothing to do with the skiing, but with the longish drive in that amount of snow. There is a big difference between driving in 6" unplowed and 18". Also, I had an accident on an icy hill last year that was $12,000+ of damage -- I don't need another such claim this year. As I said, I freaked out a bit.
